District Revenue Officer

Role and Responsibilities

The District Revenue Officer (DRO) assists the Deputy Commissioner in supervising the work of Tehsildars, Naib-Tehsildars and Sub-Registrars working in the district. For proper scrutiny and smooth functioning of revenue administration, various branches function under the control of the District Revenue Officer.

The District Revenue Officer, Rohtak has also been entrusted with land acquisition work of those departments where no separate Land Acquisition Officer has been appointed.

The following branches function under the control of the District Revenue Officer:

  2. District Revenue Accounts Branch
  3. Head Registration Branch
  4. Flood Branch
  5. Copying Branch
  6. Vernacular Record Room
  7. LIG/MIG Branch

1. Sadar Kanungo Branch

The primary function of this branch is to maintain and update land records relating to ownership and cultivation.

Main Functions

  • Maintenance and preservation of Jamabandies of the entire district.
  • Management of the land records record room.
  • Preservation of Mussavies prepared during consolidation operations.
  • Computerization and digitization of land records and Jamabandies.
  • Supervision of agricultural records prepared by Patwaris, Kanungos, Naib-Tehsildars and Tehsildars.
  • Disposal of grievances of agriculturists relating to Patwaris and Kanungos.

2. District Revenue Accounts Branch

This branch maintains accounts relating to recovery of Government dues and revenue collection.

Main Functions

  • Maintenance of accounts relating to land revenue and other Government dues.
  • Record of recoveries relating to Government departments, Boards, Corporations and Banks.
  • Matters relating to allotment and leasing of Nazul land.
  • Fixation of market value of land.
  • Disposal of acquired and abandoned land.

3. Head Registration Branch

This branch deals with registration work at the Registrar level and supervises the work of Sub-Registrars.

Main Functions

  • Supervision and examination of registration work performed by Sub-Registrars.
  • Maintenance and preservation of old registration records.
  • Issuance of certified copies of registration records to concerned persons on request.

4. Flood Branch

The Flood Branch is responsible for management of floods and other natural calamities.

Main Functions

  • Management and control of flood situations and natural disasters.
  • Provision of relief materials and trained personnel during emergencies.
  • Reporting information regarding victims affected by floods, droughts, house collapse and other calamities to the Government.
  • Distribution of relief assistance to affected persons through Revenue Officers.

5. Copying Branch

This branch provides certified copies of public documents and revenue records maintained in the record rooms.

Main Functions

  • Issuance of certified copies of land records and Jamabandies.
  • Supply of copies relating to decided and pending court cases.
  • Providing records and copies to concerned persons and their legal counsels on demand.

6. LIG/MIG Branch

The LIG/MIG Branch provides financial assistance to persons belonging to Low Income Group (LIG) and Middle Income Group (MIG) categories for construction of houses.

Main Functions

  • Grant of housing loans at nominal rates of interest.
  • Financial assistance for construction of houses to low and middle income groups.
  • Recovery of loan amounts disbursed by the branch.

The District Revenue Officer, Rohtak plays an important role in revenue administration, maintenance of land records, registration work, disaster relief management and implementation of public welfare schemes in the district.
