Deputy Commissioner

General Administration in the District

The Deputy Commissioner is the head of the general administration in the district. He works under the administrative control of the Commissioner, Rohtak Division, Rohtak. The orders and instructions of the State Government are conveyed to the Deputy Commissioner through the Divisional Commissioner. The Deputy Commissioner performs a triple role as:

1. Deputy Commissioner
2. District Magistrate
3. Collector

1. Functions as Deputy Commissioner

As Deputy Commissioner, he is the chief executive officer of the district and is entrusted with extensive administrative responsibilities.

Administrative Functions

• Supervision of overall district administration.
• Coordination among various government departments.
• Implementation of government policies and schemes.

Role in Panchayati Raj

• Supervision of Panchayati Raj Institutions.
• Guidance to Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, Municipalities, Market Committees and Improvement Trusts.
• Assistance in resolving administrative difficulties and problems of local bodies.

2. Functions as District Magistrate

As District Magistrate, he is responsible for maintaining law and order in the district.

Main Responsibilities

• Maintenance of peace and public order.
• Enforcement of security measures.
• Exercise of judicial powers under preventive provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

• Superintendent of Police

The Superintendent of Police, who heads the district police force, assists the District Magistrate in maintaining law and order.

3. Functions as Collector

As Collector, he is the chief officer of the revenue administration in the district.

Main Functions

• Collection of land revenue.
• Recovery of government dues recoverable as arrears of land revenue.
• Supervision of revenue administration.
• Acting as the highest revenue judicial authority in the district.

These officers assist the Collector in revenue administration and related work.
